Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT)
The Optical Coherence Tomographer (OCT) provides images of a cross-sectional analysis of the layers of specific tissues within the eye. With this technology our optometrists are able to detect ocular conditions sometimes well before the patient is aware that there is a problem.
OCT can detect early onset signs of retinal conditions such as glaucoma, macular oedema, diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration and macular hole. This allows for early treatment of these conditions which may improve the success rate of the treatment and minimise loss of vision.
OCT also allows examination of the cornea, iris, and lens. This information is particularly useful in the management of corneal disease such as Fuch’s Dystrophy and Keratoconus.
The imaging takes only a few minutes and is non-invasive. Your results are available immediately, allowing our optometrists to discuss the results with you on the day of your eye examination.
